Comment se déplacer aux Etats-Unis? / How to move in the US?

Par bus pardi! C'est pas très cher, c'est long, on rencontre des gens, on ne dort pas ou peu, on s'occupe comme on peut, on regarde le paysage par la fenêtre s'il ne fait pas nuit, et finalement, on arrive à destination plus vite qu'on ne le pensait! Grand Rapids, Michigan à New York City, NY : 20 heures de bus, avec un arrêt à Détroit, Michigan, un arrêt à Cleveland, Ohio, et une pause-café à Millesbrough (?), Pennsylvanie. Ce fut mon périple pour rejoindre la côte Est. Bien sûr, c'est épuisant mais je peux le dire maintenant, c'est faisable!

By bus, of course! It is not expensive, it is long, we met people, we don't sleep, or a little bit, we try to be busy, we look at the landscape if it is not at night, and then, we arrive faster than expected! Grand Rapids, Michigan to New York City, NY: 20 hours of bus, with a stop in Detroit, Michigan, a stop in Cleveland, Ohio, and a coffee break in Millesbrough (?), Pennsylvania. That was my trip to go to the East Coast. Of course, it is exhausting, but now, I can tell, it is feasible!

L ou El ou EL / L or El or EL

Un bon copain m'a recommandé de poster des films sur mon blog pour que celui ci soit plus interactif. Je m'en vais suivre son idée, et poster un court film sur le métro de Chicago, le L, le El pour "Elevator" puisqu'il s'agit d'un métro aérien. La plus vieille section date de 1892, et de ce fait, il est est le second plus vieux système de transit des Etats-Unis après celui de New-York. Il passe entre les maisons de Chicago. Les lignes rose, marrons, violette et orange font le tour du Loop, ainsi nommé car le métro fait une boucle autour de ce quartier financier. De ce fait, on peut apercevoir les bureaux dans les différents immeubles. Le "El" est un emblème de Chicago. Il est bruyant, parfois lent, mais je crois que les Chicagoans ne voudraient le changer pour rien au Monde.

A good friend of mine told me that my blog would be more interactive if I posted movies on it. So I'm gonna follow his advices, and post a movie about the  rapid transit system of Chicago, the L oe El for "Elevator", because it is an aerial metro. The oldest section dates from 1892 making it the second oldest rapid transit system int the US after New-York. Its goes between houses of Chicago. The pink, brown, purple, and orange lines go around the Loop, named so because the metro makes a loop around the financial district. the "El" is an emblem of Chicago. It is noisy, sometimes slow, but I do not think that the Chicagoans would replace it. 

Green Mill

Mais qu'est ce donc que "Green Mill"? Cette question est une colle? Pas vraiment pour les Chicagoans et les fans d'Al Capone. Il s'agit du bar préféré de ce gangster. Alors bien sûr, on y est allé. Et je dois avouer que cela restera un moment marquant de ce voyage à Chicago. Un jazz-band jouait des airs des années 40, des couples se formaient sur la petite piste de danse, et moi, j'appréciais tout simplement l'ambiance, et le fait d'être là...

But what the hell is "Green Mill"? Is this question a riddle? Not really for the Chicagoans et fans of Al Capone. It is the favorite bar of this gangster. So of course, we went there! And I have to confess that this moment will stay as one of my best time in Chicago. A jazz-band played melodies from the forties, couples danced on the smal dance floor, and me, I just appreciated the atmosphere and the fact to be here...

Base ball

Basket ball, base ball, football américain. Voici les 3 sports américains par excellence. Quand j'étais au collège, j'étais plutôt bonne en base ball.  Ce sport m'a toujours intéressée. Alors je me devais d'aller voir un match de base ball.  Lors de mon 1° voyage aux USA, je n'en avais pas eu l'occasion. Mercredi dernier, Kyle, un ami d'Andi m'a offert l'opportunité d'aller voir les White Sox de Chicago jouer contre les Indians of Cleveland. Ce fut un match passionnant de 3h30. Les White Sox ont fini par gagner 6-5 dans la 10° manche. Juste après, il pleuvait des trombes...!!!

Basketball, baseball, and football are the three most famous American sports. When I was in middle school, I was pretty good at baseball. I have always been interested in this sport. So I wanted to see a baseball game. During my 1st trip in the US, I did not have a chance to see a game. Last Wednesday, Kyle, Andi's friend, offered me the opportunity to see the Chicago White Sox against the Cleveland Indians. It was a captivating game lasting three and a half hours. The White Sox ended up winning 6-5 in the 10th inning. Right after that, it began pouring rain...!! 

Al Capone

Al Capone fait partie du mythe de Chicago. On a tous vu "Les Incorruptibles", "Scarface" ou "Le Parrain", inspiré du même bonhomme. Al Capone était un gangster. Pourtant, il continue de fasciner les foules. Je l'avais laissé à Alcatraz, prison insulaire dans la baie de San Francisco, où il fut emprisonné 7 années durant. Je le retrouve ici, à Chicago où il vécut et où il commit ses méfaits. La légende est telle que je me dois d'aller sur ses traces! 

Al Capone is a part of the myth of Chicago. We all have watched "the Untouchables", "Scarface" or "The Godfather", inspired from the same character. Al Capone was a gangster. However, he keeps on fascinate people. I let him in Alcatraz, insular jail in the San Francisco's bay, where he stayed for 7 years. I meet him again here, in Chicago, where he lived and committed crimes. He is such a legend that I have to  go on his trails!
